Hey you! Welcome to day 5 or letter "F" of the A-Z Blogging Theme Challenge. These Finger Licking Hot and Sticky Chicken Wings are a perfect crowd pleaser because you possibly can't have a Crowd Pleasing Appetizer theme without having chicken wings, especially the ones that are oozing with hot and sticky sauce... mmmmmmm.....
I'll hold your hand and show you the way to not one, not two, but FOUR types of hot and sticky finger licking good chicken wings. Ok, let's get to it!
These chicken wings are baked in the oven but taste the same as if you deep fried them. How? you ask. There IS a secret weapon... dun dun dun..... baking powder. YES, BAKING POWDER!! There's something about baking wings with spice rub that has baking powder, it makes them bone dry as they bake and eventually become as crispy as if you deep fried them. Yes, seriously. You have to try it out!
All you need are as follows:
2 TB baking powder (yes, baking powder! This is the secret ingredient, make sure you include this in the recipe!)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp paprika
2 ½ pounds chicken wings
GLAZES:
DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place an oven-proof wire rack over the foil. Don't skip the aluminum foil step, it's a life saver and makes super easy clean up since all the drippings will land on the foil and you just toss that afterwards as opposed to scrubbing the pan for days.
Combine baking powder, salt, black pepper and paprika together in a small bowl. Place chicken wings in a large bowl. Sprinkle ½ of the baking powder mixture over wings,
toss to coat.
Sprinkle remaining baking powder mixture over the wings and toss to coat again.
Place wings onto the rack of the prepared baking sheet.
Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.
Turn wings and continue baking for 20 minutes.
Turn wings again and bake until wings are browned and crispy, about 15 minutes more.
At this point, they are nice and crispy and are so tantalizing, I caved and can't resist any more... I took a bite (or two or three...) shhhhhhh tell no one!
With the remainder of the wings that were left (after one mysteriously disappeared), transfer them to a large bowl. Divide into 4 portions.
Glaze 1 - Honey Sriracha Glaze:
Combine honey, sriracha hot sauce, rice vinegar and sesame oil together in a bowl until glaze is smooth.
Drizzle glaze over wings and toss to coat completely. Transfer wings to a serving platter and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.
Glaze 2 - Diana's Honey Mustard BBQ Sauce
Toss to combine:
Glaze 3 - Sweet Chilli Sauce
Toss to combine:
Glaze 4 - Buffalo Wing Sauce:
Combine Frank's Red Hot sauce with butter, salt and pepper. Heat up in microwave until butter is all melted, around 30-40 seconds. Stir to combine.
Pour over wings, toss to combine.
They look so sinful and forbidden.
(.... no one's looking...)
Indulge.
Which one is your favourite?
'Till next time,
xox Lily.
