I always wanted to try making something delicious in my slow cooker or Crock Pot.  It is so easy to use.  All you have to do is put everything in the slow cooker, let it simmer for a few hours without attending to it.  You can even leave the house and have a hot meal ready to be served after you return a few hours later!

I just love all types of Korean food especially the Korean short ribs, so I decided to make Korean Braised Beef Short Ribs or Galbi Jjim.

This recipe is so yummy and EASY that you're going to LOVE it!

All you need are as follows:

  • 2 onions
  • 10 cloves of garlic
  • 1 TB of oil
  • 3 TB cooking wine or sake
  • 3 Lbs chunks of beef short ribs
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¾  cup water
  • 3 TB sesame seed oil
  • 3 TB sugar
  • and of course.... a slow cooker or crock pot ; )

I love onions and garlics so I'm using 2 onions and lots of garlic, you can use less if prefer.  Heat up the slow cooker on high as you chop away:

Add cooking oil, onion and garlic:

If you have time, you should boil the short ribs in hot water for 7 minutes to get rid of scum (cooked blood) and some fat.  Wash and put them on top of the onion and garlic in the pot.  If you're short of time, you can add the unboiled short ribs directly into the pot (on top of the onion and garlic):

Add seasoning - soy sauce, sesame seed oil, water, sugar, cooking wine:

Mix everything together making sure that each rib is covered and seasoned nicely.  I left the slow cooker on high for the duration.  Every slow cooker is different, make sure yours is safe to leave on high for 5 hours and that the heat is on so high that it'll dry up all the liquid.

After 1 hour:

3 hours later - note:  I did add some dried soy beans into the mix around now, that's why you see them on the last photo ; )

5 hours later - ready to eat!  It's so juicy, tender and flavourful!
